Beach Themed Great Room

It has almost been a year since we remodeled our kitchen and great room!
Here was the before & After...
This is how it looks one year later...
We did sell our old leather set and we moved our sectional from our living room into the great room.
You can see how our living room turned out HERE.
I did buy a new chair...
I found it at Homegoods and I LOVE everything about it!

I also added some ottomans...
It was so hard to find an ottoman that looked good in the space that wasn't a fortune.
It's amazing to me how an ottoman can be as expensive as a couch!
I found these at Target for $39.00.
The coral pictures were in the clearance section at Target and I got the anchor from Homegoods.
I purchased the mirror from Rod Works and I love how it looks like a port hole in a ship!
This little corner took me forever to get it to feel right.
I had this whale above the lamp...
It looks better above our door.
Then I had a single picture above the lamp and it was too small.
I found this birdcage shelf at Gordmans...
I found the frames, but wasn't too sure what I should put in them.  They ended up hanging there empty for about a month.
Then I  had these prints made...
They bring back good memories from a vacation we had taken to California a few years ago.
I think the room is finally complete!
Just because I always love a good before and after here you go!
BEFORE...
AFTER...
I love how bright it feels!
Now, if there was only a way to turn our house into beachfront property!

Living Room {REVEAL}

We have lived in our home for over 10 years and our living room has gone through a few changes.
Here is how it looked for years...
A few years ago, we sold our floral set and got a sectional.
We recently remodeled our KITCHEN and GREAT ROOM, so we decided to paint our living room the same color.  We used the Benjamin Moore Color 'Pelican Grey'.  I love it because it's grey, but in different light it can look a light blue.  We also changed the baseboards and trim around the windows.
We decided the sectional would seat our whole family when we watch movies, so we moved it into our great room.  So, this started the process of finding new living room furniture.

You can see the post about switching around all of my furniture HERE.

It's taken me quite a while to get it together, but here is how it looks now...
I really love how it turned out!
Here is the view from our entryway...
In the past, I have always purchased a matching set, but this time I bought each piece separately.
It actually turned out cheaper this way and I really like how it looks.
It took longer to get it to the look the way I wanted and was a little frustrating at times.
I ended up buying and returning four sets of chairs! I was ready to take back our couch!
Then I scored these chairs at Homegoods...I'm addicted to that store!
They were only $99 a chair!
I love the stripes!
Then I found a table runner that was made with the same material and made pillow covers out of them.
It only cost me $10.00 for both pillows!

I was going to find a round coffee table, but decided I liked this tufted ottoman.
It opens up and has storage too!
I bet you can't guess where I bought it from?
Yes, it was once again Homegoods!
My next find that I adore was this bird cage bench...
It is so unique and fit perfectly because I have little birds throughout this room.
I love the material on the bench too!
It's our dog's favorite piece of furniture...
He's always on the lookout for someone walking by our house!
I also found a wingback chair at Homegoods (That store knows me on a first name basis now!)
It fits perfect in our bay window...
It's classic with the nailhead trim and stripes.
This is a great little corner next to our piano.  I also found the frames at Homegoods and put our new family pictures in them!
This is what our bay window/piano area looked like before...
Here it is now...
I got the clock at Hobby Lobby.
It was turquoise, so I spray painted it grey.
I also found the lamps at Homegoods!
They work great for more lighting when the kids are practicing.
I just need to buy smaller bulbs!
The little white flowers are from Ikea and the pots were in the dollar section at Target.
The little white bird is one I already had.
It looks cute for spring and the piano is fun to decorate for the different holidays.

Here is our entryway and hallway...
This is in the entrance by our front door.
You take one step down into the living room/hallway...
I stained this table a dark walnut and added the cute bird knobs from Hobby Lobby...

This is the table that was behind my couch in the first picture, it looks totally different now!
Keeping with the bird theme...

The shelf has a cute little bird on top and of course I put one inside!
Our living room feels so much brighter!  It feels like a totally new house!
I always love a good Before & After...
It's so fun to see how our house has changed over the years!
I've never loved it more than I do now!

Living Room Transformation

One project leads to another...
All of our baseboards and trim are new in the kitchen...
So, it was time to make our living room match.
I had to take a break from projects for a few months, but I'm finally ready to finish it all up!
We ripped out the old trim & baseboards, painted and added the new trim.  We still need to fill holes, paint, and caulk around all of the new woodwork.

Before we remodeled the kitchen, I loved the paint color in my living room!
You can click the link below to see more of it...

It was so weird, but after the kitchen was complete our living room looked a mustard color & seemed so DARK!
I painted the walls the same color as our great room...
The color is by Benjamin Moore and is called Pelican Gray.
I just color matched it at Lowe's with their paint with primer.
I LOVE this color!
It's neutral & bright!

I've been having such a hard time trying to figure out how to make this room bright with all of the "brown" furniture and decor I have!
Then I moved the bench from my kitchen into the living room...
It looked good and has some of the lighter colors I want to use.
Then I found fabric at Joann's that matched the bench!
I was going to make pillow covers, but for some reason the fabric didn't look too good on my couch.
So, I decided to make covers for my baskets...
Then I took the lantern that was above my staircase and put it on the table.
I already had the mirror and initial and decided to try them above the table.
I did buy the cute hook at Hobby Lobby for $5.00 and hung a wreath I already had.
I like switching around things that I already have, it makes it feel new!
I really like how it's coming together...
It's feeling bright and fresh!
This is what my table originally looked like...
I stained it a walnut color a few years ago to match the rails on my staircase.
You can see that makeover HERE.
Last week, I found these bird pulls at Hobby Lobby and they were 50% off...
It was a cheap and easy way to change the look of my table!
I can't wait to show you the rest of the living room when it's done...I need to either hire someone to paint the trim or get off the computer and get started!!

Fireplace {REVEAL}

Way back in January we started our kitchen remodel & this extended into our great room.
Our kitchen still isn't done, but our great room is finished!
The fireplace is now a beautiful focal point that completed the whole kitchen remodel.
Our kitchen is white, so this connected the two areas and made the whole space look amazing!

This is definitely one of my favorite parts of the whole remodel...My fireplace turned out so beautiful!
BEFORE:
AFTER:
Can you believe this is even the same room?
BEFORE:
AFTER:
I am completely amazed at the transformation.
The herringbone tile on the fireplace is SO beautiful...
 It looks so unique...
I actually found all of the tile at Lowes.
It is part of the Allen & Roth brand.
The planked wood is so gorgeous that I've been afraid to hang anything up on the mantel.
I've had a clock for about a month that has just been sitting on the floor.
Last night, I finally asked my husband to help me out.  He did not want to ruin the wood with nail holes either.
We were trying to figure out how to hang a nail between the cracks.
He was so nervous about ruining it, that he actually called our contractor and asked what he thought we should do?
He saved the day and had a nail thin enough to fit between the cracks without damaging the wood!
Here it is decorated...
I decided to go with a beach house feel!

 It makes me happy!

 Isn't that woodwork gorgeous?
I still have to pinch myself when I walk in this room, Is this really MY house??

I sure love a great Before & After...
It's amazing what a little woodwork & paint can do for a room!

***Update***
Our kitchen is finally done too!
If you'd like to see the before & after, you can find it HERE.
